The Advanced Scene Study Class is intended for theatre professionals only. It offers a concentrated, Meisner based approach to contemporary scene work that mirrors the rehearsal to performance process. Each student will work with another actor on one scene for the entire six week period.

The first five weeks will be taught by Darrell W. Cox (Profiles' Associate Artistic Director). The final week will be taught by Rick Snyder (Steppenwolf Ensemble Member and acclaimed actor/director), who will critique and work all of the scenes. Auditions are required, as class size is limited to ten students.

Darrell W. Cox (Instructor) was most recently seen as Joe Cooper in Profiles' production of Killer Joe by Tracy Letts, for which he received his fourth Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Principal Role. Prior to that, he was seen as Ben in Profiles' Midwest Premiere of The Mercy Seat by Neil LaBute, and as Joe in Profiles' World Premiere of Graceland by Ellen Fairey. Other recent Profiles credits include Profiles' Midwest Premiere of Great Falls by Lee Blessing, as well as Taggart in Profiles’ first full Chicago production of Men of Tortuga. He was recently seen in the Chicago Premiere of The People's Temple at American Theatre Company as Jim Jones and Stephan Jones. He has appeared at Steppenwolf in the World Premiere of Men of Tortuga (where he originated the role of Taggart), the Midwest Premiere of Orange Flower Water (which traveled to the Galway Arts Festival), and the World Premiere of Wendall Greene. Darrell has also been seen at the Goodman in The Shawl and Home as part of the David Mamet Festival and the World Premiere of Martin Furey's Shot at TimeLine, among others. He has won four Joseph Jefferson Awards for Principal Actor for his work in Profiles' productions of Killer Joe, Blackbird, Some Voices, and Eye of God. In addition, he has received two After Dark Awards for Outstanding Performance for Profiles' productions of Popcorn and Carnal Knowledge. Darrell's directing credits include Profiles' U.S. Premiere of The Wonderful World of Dissocia by Anthony Neilson. Prior to that he directed Profiles' Midwest Premiere of This is How it Goes, "Coax" and the titular play in the evening of short plays, Things We Said Today and the Midwest Premeire of autobahn, all by Neil LaBute. Other directing credits include The Radiant Abyss by Angus MacLachlan, and Wonder of the World by David Lindsay-Abaire.
Rick Snyder (Instructor) has been a Steppenwolf Ensemble Member since 1983 and is an acclaimed actor and director. He is an instructor for The School at Steppenwolf and Associate Artist at Steppenwolf for the last ten years. Rick recently appeared in August: Osage County and The Unmentionables at Steppenwolf Theatre. Rick most recently directed Profiles' production of Killer Joe by Tracy Letts, for which he received a Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Director. His recent directing credits are Art at Steppenwolf, Mauritius at Northlight, Men Of Tortuga at Profiles, The Actor at the Goodman, Lion In Winter at Writer's Theatre, Aristocrats at Strawdog Theatre, Betrayal at Steppenwolf, Jolly and The Disappearance of the Jews at The Goodman Theatre, St. Scarlet at ATC, Bus Stop at Writers Theatre and Last of the Boys at Steppenwolf Theatre. Other directing credits include Tavern Story, Things Being What They Are, Orange Flower Water, which traveled to the Galway Arts Festival, and The Fall to Earth. Recent acting credits are Man From Nebraska and I Never Sang For My Father. Other Steppenwolf Theatre productions include Wedding Band, Time of your Life, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in London and on Broadway, Sideman in Galway, Ireland, David Copperfield, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Slaughterhouse Five, Molly Sweeney, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, the Tony Award-winning Grapes of Wrath, The Road to Nirvana, and A Walk in the Woods. He has appeared at the Goodman Theatre in As You Like It, Down the Shore and as Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. Television credits include Crime Story, First Steps, Lady Blue, Legacy of Lies, The Woman Who Loved Elvis, Overexposed, and guest starring roles on Early Edition, Profiler, Chicago Hope, Angel Street, The Untouchables, Missing Persons, and Mind of the Married Man. Rick has appeared in the films Meet the Applegates, The Tuskegee Airmen, Alien Nation Millenium, The Net starring Sandra Bullock, Whiteboys, and Soul Survivors. He appeared as agent Frank Burrows in U.S. Marshals and recently appeared in The Human Stain.
The Audition Workshop is a two day intensive for theatre professionals only. The Audition Workshop will help you develop your skills and increase your potential for getting cast. The workshop covers every aspect of auditioning including monologues, prepared reads, cold-reads and the business (agents, headshots, casting directors, etc.). Class size is extremely limited and acceptance is based on approval by Erica Daniels and Darrell W. Cox.

Erica Daniels (Steppenwolf Casting Director) originated Profiles' Advanced Scene Study Class with Profiles's Associate Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox in 2002. Erica has been the Casting Director at Steppenwolf Theatre Company since 2001. She also freelances as a Casting Consultant to many Chicago Theatre Companies, including Profiles, Lookingglass, About Face, and Writers’ Theatre. Before returning to Chicago where Erica worked as an agent for Geddes, Arlene Wilson and Shirley Hamilton she spent a year as the Theatre Department Coordinator at William Morris in New York. Working under George Lane, she worked with such writers as John Patrick Shanley, Richard Greenberg, Warren Leight and Kenny Lonergan and directors such as Michael Mayer, Robert Falls, Mark Brokaw, James Lapine and Daniel Sullivan. Erica began her career as a casting assistant at Jane Brody casting. She holds a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University..
