Profiles presented the Chicago Premiere of PADDYWACK by former Sinn Fein activist Daniel Magee. PADDYWACK is the story of three men living in a London boarding house who suspect their new roommate is an IRA terrorist. This hard-hitting psychological drama swirls around a young Irishman who moves into a boarding house only to find himself surrounded by fierce racial tensions. When a series of bombings attributed to the IRA sweeps the city, misconceptions and resentment towards the new tenant propels the play to an explosive finish.
"Paddywack is a taut and tense piece of writing that raises important issues about perception and race. Newcomer Lisa Devine keeps her intelligently staged and well-acted Profiles' production at a rapid pace (this show is never dull), underscoring transitions with abrasive rock music."
- Chris Jones, CHICAGO TRIBUNE
"Profiles Theatre introduces the work of Irish playwright and former Sinn Fein activist Daniel Magee to Chicago. It's a taut, vigorous potboiler that blows the lid off Great Britain's little discussed racism!"
- Jonathan Arbarbanel, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
"Profiles' Chicago Premiere of Daniel Magee's play about bigots in a London boarding house rooting out a suspected IRA terrorist provides a well-paced, compelling 90 minutes of theatre. It's a refreshingly intelligent drama of social consciousness!"
